the god of small things - arundhati royThe most beautiful book I have read in a long time. It deals with a family struck by tragedy after tragedy, much of it centring around traditional expectations of marriage, caste, and borders. The story is in itself compelling, but I loved it more for the beauty and creativity of the language that Roy uses. That woman really knows how to word a metaphor.

Set in Aymanam, a village in the Kotayam District of Kerala, India.
