signs-preceding-end-worldI read this book a while ago but as I hold it in my hands right now, I know I need to read it again. It is the story of Makina, a bad-ass young woman who crosses the Mexico-US border to search for her brother. It gives you an insight into the strange places of crossing: the borders between countries, the citizen vigilantes. I remember the sensation of reading this book – the language is so beautiful and unique and wrapped me up in its flow. You are brought into Makina’s world – the violence and her emotions, seeing America with fresh eyes, and the harrassment she faces as her journey progresses.
